Elena Britton

Clinical Psychologist

Trained in CBT, ACT, IFS, EMDR & DBR

I began practicing as a psychologist in 2019 and pursued further postgraduate study completing a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology in 2021. During my practice and clinical registrar program I enjoyed working with people from diverse backgrounds, including people with disabilities, migrants, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people from LGBTQIA+ community. I have experience of working with children, adolescents, younger and older adults providing psychological assessments and interventions, behavioural support and advice.

In 2020 I have completed training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). This modality helps to process difficult stressful memories which are often the root cause of maladaptive beliefs and coping mechanisms. This further inspired my interest in other trauma informed interventions such as Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). I also utilise Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy when indicated.

During my private practice work I became particularly interested in working with adults who seek help in overcoming the effects of trauma, adversity and neglect. â€‹I believe in looking beyond the current symptoms to gain awareness of how prior life experiences have shaped our personality and nervous system responses and what beliefs we formed about ourselves, others and the world. Some of these responses, while useful in the past, may no longer serve us and prevent us from meaningful living and social engagement. In therapy we seek to process distressing memories, strengthen positive beliefs and develop new ways of responding which are supportive of our mental health.
